# Installation basics

What every resource has in common, from the download to the first start.

Every resource is installed the same way. The page of each product lists what is specific to it: its folder name, its optional dependencies and where it goes in your `server.cfg`.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Download the resource

After your purchase the resource is added to your Cfx.re account. Sign in to the [Cfx.re Portal](https://portal.cfx.re), open your granted assets and download the latest version.

Always download from the Portal. A copy passed on from another server does not start.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Put it into your resources folder

Unzip the download and move the folder into your server's `resources` folder. Keep the folder name it comes with.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Upload **every** file, including the hidden `.fxap` file in the resource's root. Some FTP programs hide or skip files that start with a dot. Without it the server cannot verify the resource.
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Add it to your server.cfg

Start the resource after your framework and after the optional resources it can use:

```cfg
ensure oxmysql
ensure es_extended
ensure ox_target
ensure chess
```

None of these are required by the table games. Each product page says what it uses when it is running.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Restart the server

Restart the whole server once after adding a new resource, not only the resource. From then on `ensure <name>` or `restart <name>` in the console is enough after a config change.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## The server licence key

The resources are protected by the FiveM asset escrow. A protected resource only starts on a server whose licence key (`sv_licenseKey`) belongs to the same Cfx.re account that owns the resource.

If your server runs on a key from another account, for example your host's or a co-owner's, transfer the asset to that account in the Portal.

## What you can edit

The code ships encrypted. The files meant for you are left readable:

| Product | Files you can edit |
| ----------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------- |
| Chess, Dice Kings, Rummiduck, Quicks, Duck Down | `config.lua` and `locales.lua` |
| The Lost Treasure | everything in the `config/` folder |
| Quackmobil | `config.lua`, which also holds the texts |
| Promo vans | nothing; they work as they are |

See [Editing config and languages](/organized-chaos-docs/editing-config-and-languages.md) for how to change them safely.

## If the resource does not start

| Console message                                       | Cause                                                                            | Fix                                                                                       |
| ----------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `You lack the required entitlement to use <resource>` | The server's licence key belongs to a different Cfx.re account than the purchase | Use a key from the buying account, or transfer the asset to the account that owns the key |
| `Failed to verify protected resource` | The `.fxap` file is missing or damaged, often after an FTP upload | Upload the resource again, with hidden files shown and in binary mode |
| `Could not find resource` | The folder is not inside `resources`, or it was renamed | Check the path and the name in `ensure` |
